The Message (メッセージ Messēji) is the 8th volume of Katsura Hoshino's D.Gray-man.[1][2]

Summary

"The battle on the sea continues, with the swarm of evolved akuma pressing hard on the Exorcists. Lenalee tries to tackle one akuma on her own, but realizes she can prevail only by unleashing the full force of her Innocence. Back on the ship Lavi prepares to call on a special attribute of his own Innocence. Will any of this be enough? Can the Exorcists hold on, or will they need help that may or may not come?"

"Sorry this is late. I moved to Tokyo about eight years ago, and my dream of bringing my mother from Shiga has finally come true. Unfortunately, so far all we seem to do is fight."

    • "Do the names of the characters have any interesting stories behind them?" – Allen doesn't know, Hoshino makes them up on the spot and doesn't remember how she came up with "Allen." Kanda's name is from the main character of an earlier rejected manga.
  • Discussion Room Vol. 2
    • "What happened to Komlin II after it was destroyed by Lenalee in Volume 3?" – It's revealed that Kanda cut down the first Komlin long before the events of volume 3 because it ate his soba. Allen heard that Komlin II was dismantled by Reever and the science team, then went into a hydraulic press.
  • Discussion Room Vol. 3
    • "Besides parasite- and equipment-types, what types of weapons do exorcists use?" – There's only the two types but they each have many manifestations, but new types may emerge in the future.
    • "Where does the funding for the Black Order come from?" – Allen heard it's from the Vatican.
    • "In Volume 7, For mentioned that someone got lost in Asia Branch's basement. Who was it?" – Allen thinks it was Bak, and notes that "Wong looked uncomfortable when it was mentioned."
    • "How long has Hevlaska been its current form?" – A long time according to what Allen's been told. He thinks Hevlaska looks female.
    • "Is the Millennium Earl human? I hope he remains a mystery for a long time. I love it." – Kanda questions if the reader wants to know or not.
  • Discussion Room Vol. 4
    • "The other day I was reading volume 12 of Gintama, and I thought I was seeing things. I noticed a picture of Lavi from "the 59th Night" in the letters section. The artist, Sorachi, said it was just a misunderstanding and that it "looked like Lavi had been suffering and needed a break." How do you feel about other artists commenting on your characters?" – They had a good laugh after hearing about it from an assistant. It's also not odd for postcards to get mixed up.
    • "Is Mahoja a man or a woman?" – A woman.
    • "Is Bookman's panda-like makeup protection against something?" – Allen doesn't know and Kanda doesn't care.
  • Discussion Room Vol. 5
    • "When did Komui develop this strange attachment to his sister?" – Allen doesn't know but wonders if it's because the Order took her away as a child.
    • "Who do you think is the most popular with the opposite sex?" – Allen insults Kanda and then a fight breaks out between them.
