Individual chapters of D.Gray-man are originally published in anthology manga magazines owned by Shueisha under their Jump line of magazines. These chapters are later compiled into volumes, called tankōbon in Japan, which may include extra material and corrections/changes with art/dialogue/titles. Due to Katsura Hoshino's health issues, D.Gray-man has transferred to other Jump magazines with longer update schedules:
- Chapters 1–186 were published in the weekly magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from May 31, 2004 – April 27, 2009.
- Chapter 187 was published in the seasonal magazine Akamaru Jump✝ on August 17, 2009.
- Chapters 188–218 were published in the monthly magazine Jump Square from November 4, 2009 – January 4, 2013.
- Chapters 219–227 were published in the quarterly magazine Jump SQ.Crown‡ from July 17, 2015 – January 19, 2018.
- As of chapter 228, the series publishes in the quarterly magazine Jump SQ.Rise (April 16, 2018 – present).
Despite the transfers, Shueisha continues to publish the manga volumes under their Jump Comics imprint.N The English-language licensor of the series in North America is Viz Media, which has been releasing volumes since May 2006.
Published Volumes
Volume names tend to have the same title as one of the chapters within that volume; sometimes the English version uses a different chapter's title for the volume name. Chapters are labeled as "nights" (in Japanese, the chapter number is followed by 夜 -ya instead of the usual 話 -wa).
Omnibus Edition
In 2013, Viz began re-releasing the manga in omnibus volumes that contained 3 volumes each.

Adaptation
Main articles: Episode Guide and Anime-Manga DifferencesThe two anime seasons adapt the manga relatively closely while adding moments, filler scenes, filler arcs, and changing or removing some scenes. The 2006 anime adapted up to Chapter 157 (but skipped most of pages 1-14). The second anime, D.Gray-man Hallow, adapts from Chapter 165 up to Chapter 208 (but skipped pages 22-29 from ch.208).
Notes
